Building Something For Me ~ 31153 Modern House
Recently, I did something I almost never do - I built a LEGO set just for my own enjoyment! As strange as that sounds, once you get into the rhythm of video production, it's hard to not just look at every set you buy as another potential project. The 31153 Modern House bucked that trend! ...until it didn't.

    So "First Lego set" is a question made slightly complicated (in a good way) by my older brother. His Legos were the first I built and played with, probably at the age of 4, alongside him and/or our mom. The first Lego set I remember playing with and building was probably Majisto's Magical Workshop (6048) and it is still synonymous with the wonder and magic of Lego as I have this sense of imagining all the nooks and crannies of the wizard's workshop implied by the bricks and the possibility of the world it was part of. The first Lego set I remember getting as my very own was 6470, Mini Dump Truck. I can still recall walking down the aisles of a Toys R Us in Las Vegas, most likely in the last couple months before my family moved to California. Sure the Mini Dump Truck represents the on-its-face answer to the video's question, but it doesn't have the sort of impact that we often want our firsts to have. I had to get a look at the minifig operating the dump truck and his five o'clock shadow to be sure I was remembering the right thing, but my guy Majisto? Sometimes that little wizard and his magical workshop just pop into my head unbidden or with pretty limited context and it brings a smile to my face! I'll think about the hinged opening and the sloped roof and the absolutely cool green dragon kite shield of the Dragon Masters and it coalesces into something essentially Lego to me. It's the spark that kindled a lifelong source of a variety of joys and that's a special thing. A couple honorable mentions go to the Granite Grinder (4940) -a welcome to Fresno gift from my paternal grandma which was briefly the sole occupant of my closest in our new house- and the original Slave I (7144) -a gift from my brother for my fifth birthday that was something of a gateway into Star Wars for me.

    Mars Mission was coming out during my formative years and was a favorite in my childhood. I like its aesthetic a bit more personally, but its aliens were a downgrade, with or without the glow-in-the-dark. I wish they’d had poseable arms and head. Was definitely possible (i.e. the Alien Commander) but Lego didn’t want to do it for some reason.

    Very interesting!! I don’t completely agree with a lot of the takes in this video, but I find them very interesting. Personally I think lego sets should as detailed as possible while having huge give away that is still Lego, like having studs visible on top of a very smooth wing. However I think playability should AWAYS come before details. Lego sets will always be toys to me. There is nothing wrong with Lego models, but the main play sets should always put playability over detail. But you can still have a very detailed play set that is super accurate (if it is based off of something) and still be a cool toy. For this reason I personally love the plague parts. Not a fan of the rounded tiles though. Very cool video!

    While I watch this video, I'm doing the same thing. I bought a (second) Interstellar Spaceship earlier and am building it with the intention of turning it into a more modular vehicle (and then modifying my first set to match if it goes well). It's a fun and affordable set but it feels like it's lacking in functionality outside of the booster feature.

    I recently bought a Roboforce Set, thinking it was used with box. To my surprise it is actually sealed. Now that puts me in a dilemma. I bought it to build it, but as of yet I couldnt bring myself to break the seals. Selling it and buying a used one also isn't really an option, as I live in a region where these sets were never released, so I cant just hop on ebay and buy a used one. :/

    • @RRSlugger
      @RRSlugger 12 годин тому

      That's wild! Sealed RoboForce is definitely rare, but I'm not sure how in demand it is; I think you're safe to open it up, personally, but ultimately that depends on you! You didn't buy it for it to be a box on a shelf, eh? 🙂

      @@RRSlugger no i most certainly want to open it up. But it is crazy how hard it is to do so. Oh well, as the saying is in my country "es frisst ja kein Brot" (it doesnt eat bread), so for now it stays sealed until i Fell the time is right. Maybe for a livestream down the road 😁 (Funny thing btw, the Video from beyond the brick you used in the Video, has the Boss of the LEGO Website I write classic Reviews for walking about in the background 😁)

    This is a common trap. I really resonated with the difference in sound engineering and the effect it creates. The first emotion that comes to mind when thinking about a mining operation (especially if there are lives at stake) is not one of excitement or thrilling action, but rather one of eminent peril, anxiety, uncertainty...If you have come across these kind of jobs in your life, you most certainly understand the risks associated (and the training is usually as scary). As in any case, the package with which one wraps the content can sway the feeling towards that content entirely. The Mona Lisa wouldn't be as beautiful without its frame, I assure you! And that is also why advertising works! Storytelling is an essencial part of creating these scenarios, and that is kind of lost nowadays. Everything is kind of superficial and non-serious with little imagination put into the story, the premises or the objective. There's a missing element of "I understand this". LEGO is getting pretty awesome technically (I mean, the building techniques are incredible) but that is not usually the selling point for kids, but rather for adults (debatable). This company is slowly getting into the realistic miniature sector I tell ya...which is a bad idea, considering the pieces are square.

    CCBS DID NOT live up to the standard that Bionicle is know for. Not because of the system flaws but mostly because of the excruciating limited budget that generation 2 was builded with. During 2016 they really understood that the way to go was highly detailed Technic infused parts, however it was too little too late.

    None of this is really set in stone as I would have to watch all the movies again but here: How I would rate the film's quality is either Empire, New Hope, Jedi or NH, Empire, Jedi (Though, I have not seen Jedi in a while, planning on watching it sometime soon.) I do remember Empire being the best written, though I would say A New Hope is more solid (as in, it is a good standalone film). Can not make a point on Jedi as I only really remember the second half and the opening it still has the greatest ending out of all of them. It is incredibly emotionally fueled and filled with character payoffs, just really well done. Not the best choreographed fight in the series (That award goes to one of the ones in the prequels, though I can not remember any specifically.) it is the best when it comes to importance to the story and how much it gets us to care about it. Welp, done with my semi-structured ramblings. I love movies and I really like Star Wars, good bye.

    I know this is a pretty old video, but man I love this show so much. While yes, the earlier episodes do feel a bit bland, the later ones are really good, albeit I am probably biased. The characters are relatively simple yet I find them incredibly relatable. I find it really hard to put into words why I love this show so much, so I won't try. Some of the jokes got a genuine laugh out of me, and I actually found the Nightmare King's backstory somewhat interesting because of how real it is. That's another thing about the show, the small life lessons that it throws in every now and then. They are sometimes a bit forced I guess, but as someone who is struggling in some of the same ways as the characters I take these lessons to heart. I'm sorry if this is a bit ranty but I love this show so much :)

    In my opinion, the Mars Mission aliens look like melted gummy bears. If I were digging through a pile of used Lego and didn’t know it was a Lego design, it would go in the bucket of shame, with all the other stuff you get with used Lego acquisitions. Items like crayons, non Lego pieces and non building toys.

    Love these mechs!!! The little junkbots (14:17) are so cool. I love how several people had a similar idea of making a huge cheeseburger mech, it reminds me of when burger joints became really popular in my area and there were a ton of super similar looking diners in town. I love the idea of having that map of Mechtropolis and how you tell the lore, it feels like a real Lego theme that way, and it captures the vibe perfectly of how it's neither for kids nor for adults, it's something that really feels like it's for all ages.

    Ok. This might sound a bit insane and sacrilege, but i would not rank Life on Mars Martians in S tier. Disclaimer: I never owned a Martian myself. so i might be wrong. I have had experience from Star Wars B1 Battle droids and other sets that uses those arm pieces. And they have a tendency to break at the hands. Making them unusable in the future. So since the Martians use these arms for play. I would argue they should be lowered. My reasoning for this would be the same to rank Ehlek and Toa Mahri Hahli lower becuse they used the easily broken lime lego. And it would also align with sluggers view to lower part #4592 (the lever) for breaking easily. Some times function will tear down great form.
